Although OXFORD REIKI's number one priority is to recreate the wonderful spirit of Mikao USUI’s original approach and be in touch with the ESSENCE of REIKI, it also understands the importance of following recommended Training Guidelines in this period preceding full Government Regulation. Here are the Basic Guidelines issued by the UK Reiki Federation regarding Reiki 1, 2 and 3 Course Contents.
GUIDELINES ON REIKI TRAINING
Although these recommendations are still meant to be used as a guide only, and are not mandatory, they were the result of a consultation with the UK Reiki Federation membership in 2003, and state the conclusions reached in the summary Report on the Draft Core Curriculum (February 2004, UK Reiki Federation 1 2004).
BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL LEVELS
- Written handouts or instruction manual supplied
- Course Certificates supplied (on completion of any required assignments etc)
- Arrangements made for ongoing mentoring/support
- Opportunities for development including attendance at Reiki Shares
- Recognising the value of receiving Reiki from others as well as
- Giving healing to others and to self, as part of their continuing self development
- A Reiki diary to be kept – a journal of self treatment. A journal of any treatments given to others
- Recommended reading/updating of knowledge to keep abreast of new developments
- Awareness of UK Reiki Federation Code of Ethics
MINIMUM COURSE CONTENTS FOR REIKI LEVEL 1
- Description of Reiki Level 1
- Defining Reiki. Practical uses of Reiki
- Attunement(s) to Level 1
- Reiki History; Development of Reiki and awareness of other styles.
- The Reiki principles
- Guidelines for self-treatment plus opportunities to practise
- Treatment of others : Guidelines for giving a seated treatment plus opportunity to practise.
- Guidelines for giving a full treatment plus opportunity to practise.
- An awareness of possible contra-indications.
- An introduction to meditation
MINIMUM COURSE CONTENTS FOR REIKI LEVEL 2
Minimum suggested elapsed time between (beginning of ) Reiki 1 and Reiki 2 : three months
- Review of prior Reiki learning and development
- Description of Reiki Level 2
- Attunement(s) to Level 2
- The symbols, their origins, meanings and uses
- Practice in using symbols
- Distant healing and its application
- Practising Distant Healing
- Creating a healing space
- Meditation and creative visualisation
- Mental/emotional treatment
- Healing and the Law
MINIMUM COURSE CONTENTS FOR REIKI LEVEL 3 (MASTER PRACTITIONER)
There is no minimum suggested elapsed time between Reiki 2 and Reiki 3 training as this will depend on individual personal development and negotiation with the Reiki Master/Teacher, however, the minimum period from Reiki 1 to Reiki 3 qualification (including practice to complete case studies) should be at least 12 months.
- Review of prior learning and development
- Responsibilities of Mastership
- Transformational tools and techniques (at the discretion of the Reiki Master/teacher)
- Attunement (s) to Reiki 3 (Master Practitioner)
- Master symbol/s, descriptions and uses
- Practice in using Master symbol/s
- Minimum case studies 6 volunteers x 4 treatments
- Minimum supervised treatments 3
Plus some awareness of the following :
- Other Complementary and Alternative therapies and their benefits
- First Aid skills
- Anatomy and Physiology
- Communication and listening skills
- Business, professional and ethical studies
- Current Health and Safety legislation
- Practitioner requirements
- Need for professional indemnity and public liability insurance
- Recommended continuing professional development (CPD)
- Professional support (as offered by the UK Reiki Federation to its Registered Reiki Master/teachers).
